This is a very powerful, but longer video (worth every bit of the 8 minutes!), produced by Childnet International, a U.K. based non-profit organization. It addresses many important aspects of cyberbullying. Don’t miss this one. It effectively portrays how hurt and isolated cyberbully victims can feel. Though a dramatization, it is a “true to life” depiction of how a normal “Joe’s” school day quickly turns from bad to worse than bad, and how a well adjusted kid can find himself in a cyberbullying corner from which he believes there is no escape (including how it begins at school, but follows him home). Educators should especially notice the ”do not miss” scenes of how two adults try and speak with Joe about what’s bugging him, but he cannot seem to tell them what is happening and hides his pain until mum inadvertently discovers it. This clip covers a lot of important ground, including realistic depictions of how it could be resolved. Young people need to see that there is hope and why they need to reach out to adults. Adults: we can’t miss the signals and need to find ways to engage kids at risk or we may lose them.
