First segment in a series of profiles of key leaders in the cyberbullying field. Because there is so much cyberbullying content out there, we aim to save you time by identifying which researchers, speakers and authors are the key leaders in the field.
Dr. Sameer Hinduja and Dr. Justin Patchin are co-directors of the Cyberbullying Research Center. Dr. Patchin is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire while Dr. Hinduja is an Associate Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Florida Atlantic University. Their Cyberbullying Research Center web site provides a wealth of information on their current research, helpful fact sheets on numerous aspects of cyberbullying (“top ten lists”), news archives, etc. They are prolific and dynamic speakers and should they be in your area, their seminars are well worth your time. While they both have long lists of individual articles and books, they recently co-authored a very informative and useful work entitled “Bullying Beyond the Schoolyard: Preventing and Responding to Cyberbullying” (Corwin Press, 2009). Because Hinduja and Patchin produced a number of solid, foundational studies and findings in the early days of cyberbullying research, many other subsequent researchers have built upon and commented on their work. Keep your eye on these two – they are center stage among cyberbullying experts.
